GO Evangelism Workshop - Tonight!!

Come join us tonight at CCSB for the GO EVANGELISM WORKSHOP! What it is?! It's a night of training and application, a chance to join others in living out our lives for Christ. Come be equipped and encouraged in the are of Evangelism. The Bridge will be joining various ministries such as missions, homeless and word on the streets for a training session on how to share about Jesus. Immediately following our time of instruction and education in the area of evangelism, we will go into the local community to share about Jesus.

You'll go in a co-ed group of adults and minister to people in the community. We will talk to people, hand them 'ticket to Heaven' tracts, and ask if they need prayer. This style of evangelism is Spirit led, so be prepared to GO where the Spirit leads. Don't be afraid to make yourself available to be used by the Lord - we're all in this together!

If you have a GOT JESUS? t-shirt please wear it. If you have a Bible, bring it! We can arrange rides when we're there. The workshop is tonight, Friday June 29th at 7pm in the Kid's Sanctuary (right above where we usually meet). If this is your first time, come find the Bridge group to meet new friends! Take a step of courage and see what the Lord has for you tonight. We hope to see you soon.

* If you can come at 6pm to help set up, that would be wonderful!

The Same but Different Series: Part 3

Friday night we covered part 3 of our guy/gal series. The night's lesson was about God's Divine Duties. Pastor D sent out an email with this description of why we're studying what God Word says on this topic:
"Often times, as believers, there's a confusion as to what our role should be in the church, our workplace and home. We seek and search for that perfect "job...career...life" and with all our education and intellect we end up with not much to show for all our time and effort. From the very beginning of time, God ordained specific duties for men and women and HE equipped us with certain qualities and skills to fulfill these duties. God is looking for a 'few good men and women' to accomplish HIS will on earth. Let's discover our role and complete the work of GOD"

Cool huh? Inspired?!! We hope so. We opened the night with prayer and songs of worship to clear our minds, sing praise to God and prepare our hearts for the night's Word.

Together we followed along as Pastor D read Genesis chapter 3:1-19 and we relived the story of Adam, Eve and the Serpent in the Garden of Eden. We had a great discussion about "whose fault was it?" when it came to eating of the fruit and disobeying God. We saw how Adam and Eve both played the "blame game" pointing fingers at others rather than taking responsibility upon themselves. Ultimately, we concluded that Adam was responsible because he was the leader of the pair and had heard the direct command from God. The study went even deeper, recapping the design between man and woman and seeing the different consequences each faced after disobeying God.

  • God created man to work. Man's greatest accomplishment is work, solving problems and achieving results. He is to be the leader of the relationship between him and a woman and love and serve his wife as Christ loves the church. (Eph 5:25) Man also compartmentalizes thoughts and ideas. For example, a man's brain can be thought of as a waffle: lots of individual boxes for each topic. He will remain in one box and focus until he moves to the next.
  • God created woman to help man and to be relational. She is to be his "help mate" (Genesis 2:18), support and care taker. A woman's thoughts can be described as spaghetti, many individual noodles all twisted together and running continuously into one another. A woman feels the need to share explain and share detail to connect with others. She thrives on blending thoughts and topics together and seeing how the interact.
Once Adam and Even sinned, they faced consequences from God. The realized they were naked and felt shame for the first time. Sin entered all of humanity. As a result, each gender has unique consequences given by God which relate to how He created us. (see in chapter 3 of Genesis). Here are a few takeaways from the study:
  • A word to the ladies - Satan used the serpent to deceive Eve. He targeted her to go against God's design for the man to lead and planted doubting thoughts into her mind. He went to the woman to reverse the order of leadership. Ladies - be aware that the Enemy will whisper lies in your ear and challenge you to doubt God. You have a choice every single day to choose God's Truth or the Enemies lies. Also, although you are called to follow man's lead, don't rely solely on him. Look to God first, always.
  • A word to the dudes - Step up as a man of God! Be a warrior and not a weakling. Stand firm in your role as a leader in every relationship you have. Study God's Word so that you receive His direct commands and obey them at all costs. Do not deliberately disobey God like Adam did. Increase your private and public prayer life so that you're in constant communication with Him. Work hard but love your (future) wife well.
We ended our awesome study with a LUAU! Just for fun, we had a Hawaiian themed pot luck. We blasted some Island tunes on the radio and ate an array of yummy food. The best part was chatting with our friends and being in the company of those who love the Lord. See you next week!

Game night at Mercedes' house!

A few guys and gals got together from the Bridge for a game night. We ate "American dishes" which featured bacon wrapped hot dogs and spaghetti! Haha ok, so it was a bit Italian.

We played a round of Bible Character Pictionary. Old Testament names were challenging, but we had some good drawers and guessers. Then we played a round of Telephone Pictionary. The theme was 'movie titles' and we had a good laugh seeing the movies we started with morph into entirely different movie titles by the end.

Overall, it was a lovely night full of fellowship, friendship and fun. Thanks Mercedes for hosting us at your house! Till next time...

The Same but Different Series: Part 2

Amazing night at the Bridge. We covered: "God's Divine Differences" - to grasp the intended roles God created for men and women. We studied the example of Adam and Eve in Genesis 2:18-25 to breakdown God's original design.

God gave MAN a very specific role. He created Adam first. He gave Adam a task: tend to the Garden of Eden and name all the animals. He entrusted him with those responsibilities. He warned Adam about the forbidden tree. He loved Adam enough to cause him a deep sleep, to provide him a companion.

We learn from the example of Adam that God intended for him to be a leader. He wanted Adam to be diligent with his work. He recognized that Adam needed help and none of the animals were suitable. In order to put Adam's greatest desire to sleep, he literally made him sleep and took a rib to form Eve. Do you have a great desire? Is it for a career or a relationship? Is it for marriage? If it's not the right time for it to develop, pray and ask God to 'put to sleep' your desire so that He can work on creating the perfect outcome for you, at the best time (according to Him).

We learn that WOMAN has a very specific role. He created Eve second. Her very purpose was to be a helper, a help mate to Adam. God designed her to follow Adam's lead and be diligent in her role. Adam had sheer excitement for her because she was a part of him (v.22-23). We see that the man will leave his Father and Mother (v.24) to join with his wife and care for her. What an honor to have a man pursue you, cherish you and care for you.

We learn from the example of Eve that God intended for her to be a submissive helper. She comes alongside her man, with her complimentary gifts and makes him better balanced. She supports him and points him to God. Whether you are in a current dating relationship or not, Eve's example shows God's original design which vastly contrasts the worlds ideals for a woman. In our world, independence and self-sufficiency are awarded. Here we see that a biblical view of womanhood is to lay down your own strength and desire to lead, and to follow God's outlined purpose as a helper.

When we stay in our intended roles as a man and a woman, we fulfill our greatest purposes in Christ. We reach our highest potential and can have the most satisfying relationships. Let's continue to look to God for our examples of how to relate to one another.

We wrapped up the night with worship and prayer. We also celebrated Sandra and Anthony's birthdays with chocolate chew cookies from Torrance bakery. Mmmm so gooey! See you all next week!

The Same but Different Series: Part 2

"And the LORD God said, It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to Him." - Genesis 2:18

There are some obvious and subtle differences between girls and guys!!! We know God's design is perfect and He has a specific reason why He created male and female. So come discover what the Bible says about His creation, from God's perspective.

Join us TONIGHT at 7:30pm in the Jr. High Room as we continue learning what God's word says about His design for men and women. The study will be titled "GOD'S DIVINE DIFFERENCE" and will cover His plan for each gender, and the differences that span physical, emotional and spiritual capacities. It will be an intimate time of worship and interactive study time studying the Word of God. We begin and end with praise and worship music and have time after the message for prayer and fellowship.

See you tonight!!

*** Also, this WED night 6/20th we are having a GAME and FELLOWSHIP night at Mercedes Vargas' home. Bring an "American" dish and your competitive (but loving) game face! It's a great time of meeting new people, and getting to one one another in a more relaxed, casual environment. For more details come out tonight!

The Same but Different series: Part 1

We've started up a new series, folks! Come out to The Bridge Friday nights at 7:30pm to learn a Biblical view on being a man or a woman!

Last night we kicked off the series with an introduction and the need for the series was threefold: curiosity, unity and preparation.

As young adults, we are naturally curious about God's view on dating, friendships with the opposite sex, our own identities, gender associations and more. As we've grown up we find ourselves gathering information from what the world teaches and what our friends/family offer us. However, this type of education is sometimes against what God's Word instructs. Therefore, it is vital that we gain a greater understanding directly from God's Word to base our decisions and lifestyles after Jesus. When we have a Biblical standard to follow, we can hold up every thing/person/situation up against this standard and see how it lines up with what God says.

Additionally, learning corporately (and eventually breaking up in same gender groups) we will become more united as brothers and sisters in Christ. If we know how to have healthy conversations with one another (no creepy Christian pick up lines, hahaa) then we will grow closer to God and potentially meet the one He has for us?! Kidding, that's not the ultimate goal, but to please God in all of our actions and honor Him in how we relate to the opposite sex.

Finally, this series is foundational as we are to be prepared disciples of God. We want to exude His Word and love so that others take notice and credit our joy to the Lord. We want to be solid examples - the hands and feet of Jesus and be prepared to share His love to others. Inwardly, we want to be prepared in our hearts to be the best man or woman that He is calling us to be and live out the plan that He has laid forth for our lives.
To begin the series, Pastor D noted that there are similarities between men and woman. We all laugh at the obvious differences (which we'll cover next week) but it's important to grasp the ways in which we are similar.

The most significant similarity is that God created male and female in HIS image. Amen! In Genesis 1:26-31 we see God's perfect design when creating human beings. His Divine design was intended to have men and women who are all His children, with equal authority, and value.  One gender is not superior to the other, as stated in Galatians 3:28 "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

What a powerful verse. Our identity is first and foremost in Christ and not dependent on our personality, jobs, financial status and not even on our gender. Wow. God sees us as His children and has carved out a very specific role and calling upon each of our lives. We cannot understand an unlimited, infinite God with our finite brains. And we shouldn't strive to understand Him, rather allow God to be God.

A second way we are similar is in our desire to need God. Each person is designed to be unsatisfied with things outside of God alone. All things of the world and even our closest relationships aren't met to meet all of our needs so that we reach out to God over and over again. All men and women have a desire in their soul to connect with their Creator and find out what He has planned for them. It states in Ephesians 2:10 "We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works". We must find our identity in Christ and learn of His plan (or will) for our lives. When we follow in His way, our hearts are filled and we find satisfaction in Him. Don't go your whole life missing the One person who can provide you ultimate satisfaction for your deep longings and heart's desires. God cares about you and wants to cover you with His love.

Lastly, we were encouraged to approach God with humility (1 Peter 5:5-7) and to be open to receive His blessings. Just as He blessed the first man Adam and the first woman Eve, He will continually bless us because He loves us!

Stay tuned for part 2 of this series, next week! See you there!

Fancy dinner: The Kettle, Manhattan Beach

To celebrate a wonderful few months of discipleship small groups, we had a fabulous dinner at The Kettle. We donned our best dresses and ties and fellowshipped over fried zucchini, pasta, salad and bread pudding.

Each guy/gal leader shared a scripture from 2 Timothy as an encouragement. One key verse Pastor D shared was chapter 1:9 "For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus"!

Amen!

We left feeling exhorted to fight the good fight and finish the race in faith- pursuing Jesus with all we have. Xu encouraged the group with the example of Naomi and Ruth who returned to the land for bread- as we should always return to God. When we do, it will cause others to cling to Him as well.

It was truly a blessed night! There is something special and dynamic that happens when you consistently meet with people your age to study God's word, pray for one another and share the victories and trials of life together. God is good.

We are still having summer Bridge activities and outreach opportunities, so don't miss out. Check the June schedule posted on the blog and come out Friday nights at 7:30pm to find out more ways to be involved. Let's keep praying for one another and lifting each other up and towards Jesus.

Peace, be still. Mark 4:35-39

Tonight we had a blessed time at the Bridge. We studied Mark 4 - the story of Jesus calming a storm for the disciples and demonstrating His control in a difficult situation.

After a long day of ministry, Jesus tells His disciples that He will take them to the other side of the water. As the boats are heading over, a raging storm ensues and the disciples fear for their lives. They cry out to Jesus, in a panic as He sleeps soundly. Here, we identify with the disciples, as we realize that during a difficult situation or trial in our life, we fail to trust God. We often fear the storm rather than find assurance that God is present.

This story encourages us to seek a peace from God by relying on Him admits any circumstance. If we're in a storm or feeling pain we should call on Him! If we have experienced the peace He offers, we must foresee future trials and/or encourage others in their trials.

We split up in small groups to really apply what God's word says and how we can make it more personal. Leo shared that, until we make it personal and experience God for ourself, we may fail to trust Him. We left encouraged to pray for one another and let Christ be in control of our situations and outcomes.

Finally, we sang to Amber and Maria to celebrate June birthdays!
