FREE Harvest Fest Tonight! (Halloween Alternative)

Hi friends!

Don't miss it! The event of the year...well, the month! We are having a FREE event tonight at church. Since today is Halloween, we want to use this holiday as an opportunity to share the gospel with those who are out and about. We provide a SAFE environment for families to bring their kids to play games, hear worship music, eat dinner and fellowship with the church family. But the event is also for teens, singles, married couples and senior citizens! We have something for everyone. Share the event with those you know. Check out our promo video:

Harvest Fest is in the Hamilton Parking Lot, from 5:30pm-9:30pm at Calvary Chapel South Bay. See you there!

Open Doors!

We had a great 'testimony' night as we heard recaps about the short-term missions trips to Haiti and our own backyard [San Pedro, Long Beach, Santa Monica, Mar Vista]. We had team members Jared, Cindy and Amanda share about how God used them to share His love to children and adults in the different communities. Pastor Dennis shared an important message on praying vigilantly, consistently and with a purpose. We studied Colossians 4:2 "Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving" and were challenged to ask God to OPEN DOORS for us, to serve Him and grow in our faith. It was a great reminder to GO and share His love, as unprepared and normal as we all are.

After our meeting, we heading over to Gardena Bowl for yummy Hawaiian food, and great company. It's always nice to hang out, outside of church and enjoy the fellowship!

Harvest Fest drama practice & team PI!

A great night of practicing for the dramas we'll perform next Wed at the Harvest Fest (Halloween alternative) event at church. We also prayed for the members of team Philippines, who are set to depart in only a few weeks! Praise the Lord. God is good all the time. All the time God is good!

Drama & Dance Practice for HARVEST FEST

Tonight we will get our practice ON as we prepare for the HARVEST FEST which is in ONE week [Halloween, Wed October 31st]!! We will transform CCSB's Hamilton Parking Lot into a safe, joy-filled, Christ centered fair for the families of our community. It's FREE and all are welcome. The Harvest Fest is from 5:30-9:30pm.

Tonight we are getting together to practice. It is important for us to practice so that we can put all our energy into ministering to others next Wed night. We aim to bless those who attend and inspire them to walk closer to Jesus. *Don't forget to wear your Got Jesus? t-shirt that night and sign up to volunteer with us.

Tonight's practice is in children's classroom 3A and starts at 7pm. We will be practicing the drama Blink [see video] and dances A God Like You and Everywhere That You Go...and more!

Lovely worship night and potluck!

Thank you to Mike S. for opening up his home to the college group for an amazing night of worship. We sang praises to our God and King, lifting up HIS name and giving Him all our adoration and love. It was nice to go 'off-site' for a Friday night meeting and be in a cozy, comfortable living room environment. We had an array of yummy food for our potluck, thanks to everyone who contributed. A few different people picked up guitars as they led us in song after song. It was a truly blessed night.

Dudes and Daughter of the King Discipleship !!

Hey Dudes and Daughters of the King! So this week we had an inspiring bible study and a great time in fellowship! There were some new people and familiar faces who joined us last night to worship, study, and reflect on God’s Word.

This week, Stacie and ‘T’ shared devotionals from 1 Thessalonians Chapter 3. Stacie challenged the ladies to “follow up” with people we don’t see every day and reach out to friends/colleagues who might be having a tough time getting through trials in their life.
Similarly, Anthony encouraged the guys to be “not shaken but stirred” to serve and minister to their brothers, especially younger guys who might need encouragement in the faith.
Having a loving, genuine concern for another person lifts up both the encourager and the encouraged; Paul, after hearing Timothy’s good report, was overjoyed that the Thessalonians’ faith remained strong, despite the tribulations he suffered in prison. It was important to Paul that the new church “would not be shaken by these afflictions”, instead “abound[ing] in love to one another” during the storm.

Challenge Question: Who might be going through a difficult time in their life and need some brotherly/sisterly love? How can I show them that I care?

Speaking of brotherly/sisterly love, come out and show some support for Team Philippines by eating at El Taco Charro, 940 E Dominguez St Suite P, Carson CA 90746 on Sunday October 28th!

Go support Team Philippines at El Taco Charro !!

Learning to be CONTENT! Philippians 4:11-13

Our prayers are with the Backyard Mission team that is in San Pedro this weekend being the hands and feet of JESUS. Those of us who weren't able to attend, met last night for a challenging yet encouraging night of learning God's Word and fellowship.

Jose S. shared on being content, to be fully satisfied with who you are, what you have and where you are in life because of your relationship and dependence on God. He explained a passage in Philippians 4, written by Paul the Apostle when he was in prison. The message was full of examples of when we are poor, hungry, weak, in need, rich, strong, having plenty and how our attitude should be consistent throughout each situation. We were challenged to assess our own lives and ask ourselves are we content with what GOD has given us? Are we thankful? Can we appreciate being at a place of weakness to draw more on the Lord? [2 Cor 12:7-10] We find that in a place of humility God can teach us and bless us. It was a blessed night!

We'll continue to pray for the Backyard team as they will be at Santa Monica Promenade tonight doing ministry and evangelism!

Conversations with God: The Lord’s Prayer

An Ending to the Faith foundations series: while it’s important to know about God’s word and stand in him, it is even more important that we pray to the One who helps us to stand. In order to prevent prayer time from being another chore or a babble of words, it helps to know

-  The Person of God (who He is) - “Our Father in heaven…”
-  His Purpose and follow him – your kingdom come, your will be done…”
-  We need Him daily – “our daily bread”
-  Forgiveness from Him and to forgive others – “forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
-  To pray for others (intercession) - “Lead US not into temptation but deliver US from the evil one…”
-  Acknowledge the Greatness of God – “For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

To Recap: Knowing about him, his greatness, submitting to
his will, praying for forgiveness and strength to forgive others, and praying on another’s behalf, brings God into our lives. Praying to Him shows that we are dependent on Him for everything.

So… how can I make prayer time with God special? In what areas do I need more of Him in my life?

What's up, Meg and Andrew!

Daughters of the King and Dude’s Discipleship!!

Last Wednesday night we had a great time of worship, fellowship, and discussion on 1 Thessalonians Chapter 2!!
After snacking up on delicious food, the group joined together in an intimate time of worship. Afterwards, the guys and the ladies separated into different groups to discuss the second part of Paul’s letter. The main theme for the night was:

God Pleasers! God had entrusted Paul, Silas, and Timothy to share the gospel and they shared with the Thessalonians, unconcerned of anyone’s approval but the Lord’s. As they presented, they were careful to reflect Christ and made sure that their flesh would not give the Thessalonians a reason to reject the gospel.
They were also aware that people with impure motives had tried to persuade the church into believing something that was not of God. So Paul and his team were cautious to treat the Thessalonians gently “as a nursing mother cares for her children” but also like a father “encouraging, comforting and urging [them] to live lives worthy of God.” And by this way, the Thessalonians came to believe the Word of God.

Thinking it Over: Whose opinions really matter? Am I more concerned with other’s opinions, sometimes, when it comes to sharing the gospel? How can I present the Word of God in a gentle, encouraging way?
