FRIDAY NIGHT RECAP: THE PURPOSE OF OUR CONVICTIONS

Keeping it healthy with veggies and fruit (to balance out the donuts and chocolate of course)!

"T" gave a powerful message on convictions. He noted that convictions are GOOD and they help us stay in line with God's Word.

We learned that we can use Philippians 4:8 as a filter for our thoughts and actions:

"And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise."

We can also use the 3 H's which are perfectly summed up here by Noella. Is what you're doing....

1) HELPFUL
Convictions should cause us to set up boundaries or "guard rails" to safeguard from falling into sin that we are vulnerable to.

2) A HINDERANCE
Our convictions should help us grow spiritually, as we grow in discipline to do what the word says and be in obedience. Additionally, our convictions should cause us to act in such a way that causes people to see Christ, not some legalistic judgmental "Christian". The spirit is working things out in the lives of those around you, be an example to those who are less mature than you spiritually, and understand that their transformation and convictions may not be on the same timeline as yours.

3) HARMFUL
Our convictions should prevent us from acting in such a way that could stumble others. Loose convictions may lead to poor decisions that could stumble a new believer in Christ. Example: going to a friend's bday at a bar with the hopes of shining your light in a dark place might not be the best decision - a new believer who struggles with alcohol could be stumbled.

Prayerfully as you think about your personal convictions, you can see if they line up with what God's Word says. We hope that you will continue to come to The Bridge to be encouraged in your relationship with Jesus and others.
