"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for
many" Mark 10:45 NIV
It was a great service beginning with testimonies from our
backyard mission trip that took place during the past weekend, in which a group
of gals and guys went to various locations to share the gospel. In relation to
this backyard mission trip one of our attendees said “serving God is a way of
life”. There truly is no better feeling than to know that we are fulfilling
God’s will for us here on earth; and that we are sharing with those who don’t
know/lost or have lost their way in the midst of this world. Their testimonies fit perfectly into our
message for the night.
Our speaker Jose Sanchez (PTJ) spoke about “Serving His Way”. The
question that he brought forth, was “How do we serve His Way?” He mentioned
three points…we serve His way by being:
1. Filled with LOVE
-Having the kind of love that 1 Corinthians 13 talks about
-Weeping/
Compassion and praying for others like Jesus did
-Laying
down our lives for others John 15:13 - Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s
life for one’s friends. 1John 3:16 (NIV)-This
is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for
our brothers and sisters.
-Walking as He (Jesus)
walked
2. Filled with HUMILITY
-Thinking of yourself less; other
centered
-Jesus gave us His example of humility
when he washed His disciple’s feet John 13
-It asks the question ”what can I give?
Vs what can I get?”
-We serve to glorify God. Matthew 6 - not for selfish gain. Looks for the interest of others- Philippians 2:3-4 (NIV) Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others
above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but
each of you to the interests of the others
3. Filled with OBEDIENCE
-1 John 5: 2-3 (NIV) This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome
-We carry out the will of God
-Jesus came not by His will but the will of the father
-Obedience will cause us to experience God to the fullest. Serving God is a way of life.
-Examples-- Noah was obedient. When the Lord told Noah to build an ark because it was going to rain like never before, Noah was obedient and did as He was told to save himself and his family. When Noah preached that it was going to rain, the people did not believe him, and only his family and him were saved as a result of his obedience to the Lord. Jonah ran away from the Lord, when he was asked to preached to a city called Nineveh; God wanted to save them from destruction. Due to Jonah’s disobedience he was swallowed by a large fish. Yet God still showed mercy to Jonah when he repented and realize his disobedience
