Recap: LOVE HIS WAY: A 50’s Valentine’s Alternative

This past Friday, we recapped a night of remembering who our first love was, is, and always will be.

Pastor D shared with us that:
1. Greater love is Selfless: Thinks of others before oneself
2. Greater love is Sacrifice: A love that’s unconditional (an agape love)

  • "The Greek word agape is often translated "love" in the New Testament. How is "agape love" different from other types of love? The essence of agape love is self-sacrifice. Unlike our English word “love,” agape is not used in the Bible to refer to romantic or sexual love. Nor does it refer to close friendship or brotherly love, for which the Greek word philia is used. Nor does agape mean “charity,” a term which the King James translators carried over from the Latin. Agape love is unique and is distinguished by its nature and character. Agape is love which is of and from God, whose very nature is love itself” (source: gotquestions.org)

These two factors represent our Lord Jesus Christ, we can learn to imitate them to be like Him. God’s love is beyond the love that we can ever imagine. Let us put aside “other loves" (i.e. idols) in our lives that may want to distract, sway us away, or replace our relationship with Jesus Christ.

Who/What is your greater Love????

It was an awesome night celebrating how Jesus loves us!! Enjoy the GREAT pictures from our Valentines Alternative!
