Here are notes from Noella from Friday's message:

1 Timothy 3:1-7

God is calling us to be a leader wherever we are to make sure people are growing spiritually, and are staying on the straight and narrow path.

A leader needs to be found pure, faithful, disciplined, hospitable, capable of teaching (in whatever setting, formal or informal) and have a clear mind. A leader is not a stumbling block, and leads by example (not being drunk, and maybe not drinking at all as to avoid the "appearance of evil").

The state of your home provides an estimate of what your ministry may look like. It's likely that if a leader's home is in order, and is respected by their spouse and children, that it will be so in ministry.

Leaders must take caution not to fall into the sin of pride. For their end will be like Satan!

Good leaders are recognized by their Christianity, or moreover, Christ is an obvious part of their lives, and others can bare witness to it.

1. BEFORE WE CAN LEAD, WE MUST LEARN TO FOLLOW

"Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ" (1 Corinthians 11:1). Attention leaders! God is asking us "are you willing to forsake all, to follow me?"

"For this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps" (1 Peter 2:21). How can we lead others, putting their needs before is, following Christ's example? We must die to self to be completely given to God's call to love Him and others. People are watching. What kind of example are you being?

"If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me" (Luke 9:23). The cross is a symbol of death. Do you identify with the cross, and the sacrifice of Christ? Meaning, are you, like Jesus, willing to give your life for the purposes of God?

2. READERS ARE LEADERS

"Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (2 Timothy 2:15). Remember the Bareans (spelling help!), who verified all they were being taught. They did not just take someone else's word for it, but sought the truth for themselves.

"...Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart..." (Jeremiah 15:16). A leader takes joy in the word of God and the intimate time spent with the Lord.

"...Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies" (1 Corinthians 8:1-6). On the flip side do not let your knowledge of the word cause you to get puffed up. Remember there are "intelligent" people with hardened hearts toward the truth. Do not be like them! Knowledge without love is not received by others (1 Corinthians 13:1-3).

3. GOOD LEADERS ARE SERVANTS AT HEART

A leader is not qualified because of the people "under" them, but rather by the people that hey serve. Remember Mark 10:42-45 "whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant, and whoever desires to be first shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." Jesus' life is an example to us. He lives by example, and so should a leader!

John 13:3-5 Jesus washed the disciples' feet... His actions illustrated that a master is not above his servants. A leader who leads by example, has the heart of a servant.
