EASTER Backyard Outreaches

Dear Friends- We need YOU to come and help! We will be passing out flyers for our Easter services (see below). Come and be involved in inviting our local community to our upcoming CCSB Easter Services and share the Gospel with those we encounter!

There are two dates we are going out:
[SAT] MARCH 31st & [SAT] APRIL 7th

We will be meeting at church in the Multi Purpose Room [MPR] at 9am and will pass out flyers until 1pm.

We need all the help we can get to cover the most ground and invite the most folks! You'll be a blessing to those in need of Jesus in their lives!
See you there!

"But He said to them, "Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because for this purpose I have come forth"
Mark 1:38

GOOD NEWS: YOU'RE FORGIVEN!!

"Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little. And He said to her, "Your sins are forgiven."
Luke 7:47-48

GOOD NEWS: YOU'RE FORGIVEN!!
Join us as we are reminded of the simple fact that we are forgiven. Remember that it's not intellectual, but rather it's spiritual.

We no longer have to carry the weight of guilt and shame, it's not necessary for us to mask or deny our sin. The Bible says in Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." We thank God that Jesus PAID IT ALL! on the cross of Calvary.

Come and join us tonight!
Friday, March 30th @ 7:30pm - Jr High Room

***Right after the Bridge tonight we'll be getting together for fellowship. We'll stop by a local restaurant for great food, laughs and getting to know one another better as we late night hang out! We'd love to have you join us!***

Turn away and turn to God! [2 Timothy 3:1-9]

Hi friends!
Wednesday night we continued our study of 2 Timothy. This book of the Bible is a letter written by Paul the apostle to his younger brother in the faith, Timothy.  Last week we learned how to be useful for the Master.  This week, our focus was on turning from the ways of the world and striving after Christ. [2 Timothy 3:1-9]

The guys and girls split up for a sweet time of worship and Pastor Dennis and his wife Xu [pictured below] each gave a devotional on the passage.  It can be really nice at times to fellowship with your own gender, creating a more intimate and safe place to share personal struggles, inspirations and encouragements.

We had lots of food and next time I"ll have to snap a picture of the food! The purpose for bringing in snacks is to give of ourselves and to share with others. Sharing is caring. It also fosters fellowship which is an important part of these discipleship nights. We talk about our day/week and get to know one another better! Maybe the food will be a post on it's own next time since we had Rascals, Subway, Weiner Schnitzel & Wing Stop! Mmm fancy!

Now onto the study. This passage is for believers and non-believers, alike! There are 19 adjectives listed in this passage that describe the 'last days' and a warning to turn from these ways and turn to God.  I find it helpful to breakdown the study based on what the guys learned and what the girls learned since it may minister to you in a more specific way.

Key points from the dude's discipleship:
2 Timothy 3:1-9
  • Are you a lover of yourself?
Looking at the theme: PRIDE, the guys recalled that this is one area where many great men fell in the Bible. God uses these stories as examples, to remind us we are sinful but also to call us out on our pride, teach us to submit to Him and humble ourselves before Him. We must seek to see God in his role and position, to see ourselves in the right role and position.
  • Am I a man without self-control?
This is a true challenge - to control our eyes, our thoughts, our words and actions.  Often we find that in public we appear to have things together or under control, so that others will see that we are in the right and handing our sin well. However, the struggle can happen in private where the enemy attempts to attack our weaknesses and isolate us to keep us in the dark.  Here is where we ask God for His strength and learn from His Word how to practice self-control.
  • Am I a lover of pleasure, rather than a lover of God?
Do you have lusts that are disciplined? If so, are they about things that God cares for? We can be disciplined in the wrong things if we don't check our priorities and heart's motivations.  Your love for God needs to outweigh the guilty, sinful pleasures of the world.

Key points from the daughters of the King:
2 Timothy 3:1-9
  • Turn away because of Jesus (v.1-5)
When we have an 'all about me' attitude, we can hurt others as we fulfill our lusts in this world.  In this, we become a target of the enemy and live under his control.  We turn away from the ways of the world when we see the stark contrast these ways have to Jesus's character. Therefore, we must turn back to Him to realize how we can change, only through His strength and power (verse 5 is our memory verse).
  • Turn back to Jesus (v.6-7)
As women, we have the power to influence others and the work of the Lord in their lives versus bringing down the entire household with our straying beliefs (v.6) So we turn to Jesus to shift our desires and mannerisms to mirror His.
  • Trust wholeheartedly in Jesus (v.8-9)
Because we can be so easily decieved, we must read His Word.  Learning His character will help us see that He is trustworthy. Once you handle real money enough, you can spot a fake! In the same way, the more time we spend with Jesus and know who He is, the more we can tell the things of the world are counterfit substitutions to the real thing!

In conclusion, we read Paul's warning to Timothy as a modern day warning to us! We are in the 'last days' as it is the time period  between Christ's departure to Heaven and His return. We must not be believers who appear godly, but lack the power of God in our lives! We should desire the strong convictions to match the growth in our relationship with Jesus. Be aware that there is urgency in this passage - to require us to change our ways as Jesus is soon returning!

See you on Friday [3.23.2012]! Reminder: GO WORKSHOP! Come learn how to share Jesus with those outside of the church walls! 7pm - Children's Sanctuary. 1 hour of training, 1 hour of going into the local community to share the love of Jesus! If you feel scared, know that God's Word says: " For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind" [2 Timothy 1:7] Hope to see you there!

Now you know, now GO! Matt 28:19-20

GO! GO! GO!
The Great Commission ---> Matthew 28:19-20

Friday night's meeting was held in the old overflow room since the Jr. High & High School were having a special event.  Every once in a while, be prepared to be flexible and change things up! We filled up the room and it was a blessing to see the place full of regular attenders and some new faces as well, praise GOD!

Pastor Dennis taught us from the passage that gives us our assignment as followers of Jesus Christ, "Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age" (v.19-20).

As believers of Jesus Christ, we have invited Him to live in our hearts, and we ought to share the love we have received from Him, with others. When Jesus speaks of going, He's referring to taking action, putting feet to our faith, and letting God's word impact how we speak, act and live. This passage is referred to as the Great Commission.  Breaking down this word helps us to understand this term:  [Co] means, 'with' and [mission] means given a specific task; an important assignment.  Therefore, this commission given by the Lord is a direct command to go with God's power to share the good news of Jesus Christ [the gospel] to the world.

We were reminded that going involves movement! Also, that Jesus gives this command to go, with authority! He is God! We must know our role (children of God) and His role (Creator and Father) in order to understand why we must obey. Due to our selfish natures, we tend to let fear overcome us, as we worry about what people will think and second guess if we should share about Jesus. So we attacked this question from a Biblical standpoint:

The answer to this question is found in God's Word and is explained here in three motivating factors:

1. PURPOSE ---> we GO to understand and live out our PURPOSE for life
In Mark 1:35-38 Jesus went early in the morning away from all people and found time with His Father. This tells us, we need to find our moment with God (v.35). In our times with God is when we learn to hear His voice and gain direction and purpose for why He created us. When we seek Him out, we hear when to make a move or a decision, how to handle relationships and make plans, etc. When we step into what He's instructed, we will find our passion and calling, and our hearts will be delighted that it aligned with God's Word. We know that our time on Earth is temporary and that modeling our lives after Christ's will bring those in the world into the enlightenment of a relationship with Him that they may learn of eternal life with God. We find satisfaction from God in this life when we are living out what we were made for.

2. NEED ---> we GO because the NEED to help is greater than the cost of danger
In John 11:7-8 Jesus returns to a place where the Jews had previously attempted to stone Him. His disciples question His actions, knowing that it was logical to be afraid of the things that could possibly transpire with His return.  However, Jesus explains that the need to help the people in that city was greater than the cost of danger involved with going.  By this example we are reminded that people who don't have Jesus have a great need for a Savior and that sharing the hope we have in Him will cost us dearly.  Sometimes it costs us our reputation, finances, our pride, a relationship or our comforts.  Whatever the costs, the redemption of sins and someones soul being with Christ is much greater of a reward than experiencing the pleasures of this world. We care for God's people when we see them with a Heavenly perspective.

3. LOVE ---> we GO because sacrificial LOVE is transforming
Knowing the needs of ourselves and others, we GO because God's love is life altering.  No other love is as unselfish, unconditional, pure and sacrificial.  God's love for us extends beyond romantic feelings, friendship or any emotion.  His love is a choice, a commitment to be faithful and true forever.  Because of this love that we have received from Him, we should extend that same love to those around us.  We should GO tell others because He went (John 14:31) we should speak to others because He spoke, we should love others because He loves them. Love will overflow out of us once we realize that Jesus Christ gave His life for our sins. With this truth, we are changed, our hearts are transformed and we want others to experience this intimacy and hope in Christ!

Join us next week as we have the opportunity to GO into our local community and share the love of Jesus. We want to take what we are learning and apply it right away.  We will be having a GO! WORKSHOP in the Children's Sanctuary (Kids Zone) @ 7:00pm this coming Friday night, March 23rd.  The first part of the evening will consists of evangelism training, followed by breaking into groups and heading into the local cities to share about Jesus. Come expectant for God to work in your life and in the lives of others!

Have a blessed week!

Useful for the Master 2 Timothy 2:11-26

Dudes Discipleship & Daughters of the King gathered together last night (Wed) for small groups. Our activity for the night was to practice doing announcements because practice makes us..... better (not perfect!).  The activity showed us how we can be used in a simple way, get out of our comfort zones and get to know one another better.  There are multiple ways to help out within the Bridge: prayer, worship team, greeting, power point, set up, food/snacks, etc. Reach out and let us know your passion and area of gifting!

We continued our study in 2 Timothy, by reading more of Paul's final letter (written from prison) to his friend Timothy who is in Ephesus. Paul is encouraging Timothy and the believers to reamin faithful to God amidst dischord, false teaching and the tendency to stray from the Truth.

The dude's main points of the study were:

1. Following the Master (v.11-13) - Jesus is our ultimate example and as we look to Him, we listen to His voice, obey His calling and find life.
2. Working for the Master (v. 14-18) - We keep our focus on Him, knowing that we don't work to please man, but to honor God.
3. Set aside for the Master (v.19-21) - In our obedience we strive to look different than the world, as we are set apart for His purposes.
4. Ambassador for the Master (v.22-26) - As a result of following Him, we belong under a higher calling, therefore, our conduct brings Him glory as we reflect Him.

The daughters of the King's main points were:

1. Workman - We are to be one who is diligent and not ashamed (v. 15)
2. Servant - Following Christ's example, we are to be faithful, have a pure motive, gentle, able to teach, and should always approach another with love (v.24)
3. Vessel - Our task is to be emptied of ourselves, available to be filled by God, and be ready to be used by God (v. 20-21)

Our memory verse for the night was - "Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work" (v. 21)

The Vine & Branches - Fri night 3/2

"With Him I can, without Him I can't"
John 15:1-8

Friday night we had a blessed time as we learned about God being the VINE and we are His BRANCHES, who must ABIDE in HIM to bear fruit for His Kingdom!!

Carrington gave a great testimony of God's protection over Him in a car accident, and gave glory to His Name for peace and joy amidst a challenging situation! Praise God!
Pastor Dennis continued teaching from the book of John and we learned that we can't live this life following Jesus on our own, and that God has provided for us 'The Helper' which is the Holy Spirit to come along side us and guide us and direct us.  God has given us the instructions to put on the whole armor of God (Eph 6), step into battle on the winning & victorious team (team Jesus!!) and shared with us how to remain with Him.

In the study we broke down verses 1-8 and took from the Word instructions and promises from the Lord. First, we had to understand that Jesus is using symbols to help us understand the relationship we have with Him, His Father and others. He uses a vine, branches and fruit to help us see the roles involved within our relationships.  Jesus is the True Vine, His Father is the Vine Dresser/Care Taker and we are the branches which must grow and must produce good deeds or "fruit" as evidence that God is active in our lives. (v.1-2)

We were challenged to consider 'pruning' which is the process of getting rid of that which is dead, unhealthy and not contributing to the growth of the branch and fruit.  (v.5) We see the coorelation here to ABIDE with Christ, which means to stay close to Him in order that we remain in Him and producing fruit (v.4) As a result of producing fruit, others are nourished and are pointed back to Jesus as they share in the blessings!

If you are feeling, or have ever felt down or discouraged, take heart! For Jesus Christ lifts you up just as a Gardener would lift up a branch that is broken or weak. If you are desiring to be filled up with God, to be drained of yourself and supported by the One who created you, then come close to God and He will purge you and purify you.

The fruit you will produce will prove if you are the 'real deal' as fruit is the evidence that the plant is ALIVE! What are the areas in your life that should be pruned? What areas can you grow and produce fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and self control (Gal 5:22-23)? Be encouraged and take your hearts concerns and hopes to the Lord!

We closed the night by praying for one another and thanking God for what He's done in our lives. We also desire to practice fellowship and unity within the 'body' or group of men and women that God has brought together for this season in our lives.  We asked God to show us how to apply His Word and bear fruit in His Name so that our lives produce proof that He is in us.
Mascardo & Vaivao Kiddos hanging out

Before we ended the night, Pastor D reminded us all that we aren't here to judge if one 'loses' his/her salvation in Christ. Rather, we are aware that many make the choice to 'leave' his/her salvation which is an active decision to leave God behind or on the side.  His warning to us, was not to neglect Christ, or walk our own path but to hide God's Word in our heart (Psalm 119:!1) as we know that what is hidden in our hearts remains and what is in our minds is easily changed or forgotten.

Come out and join us every Friday night as we hear from God, respond with songs and prayer and share our lives together! See the empty seats, we need you to come and fill one! Have a blessed week!

"Remain in Me, and I will remain in You. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me" (John 15:4)
